This track will examine the skills needed for beginning a career in the Graphic Arts and Multimedia industry. Topics to be covered will include:

  • Animation - new models in animation for theatrical, television and the web, including new workflows and rendering techniques.
  • Keeping Current - Strategies on how to keep current on the latest updates or software alternatives

Career pathways in Animation

Animation has gone through an incredible change over the past twenty-five years. New technologies (CGI, 3D) have emerged, making even mainstream motion pictures such as LIFE OF PI at least somewhat "animated."  Veteran animator Scott Claus discusses the change from hand-drawn to digital to CGI and how the changes have impacted the careerpath.  He will also discuss ways that "animators" may utilize their skills in other careers.

Current Trends in Prototyping Tools

A transformation is occurring in the design industry with the adoption of tools, such as Sketch and InVision, which are built specifically for fast prototyping of web and mobile projects. These new software tools and processes are helping web and mobile designers adapt more quickly to industry needs. Educators are challenged to decide which tools to integrate into curriculum to best serve students.
